About the Role
Oversee operations and support for the Abramson Family Cancer Research Office of the Scientific Director (AFCRI OSD) and the Penn Image-Guided Interventions (PIGI) Lab. Manages teams responsible for study coordination, data integrity, and implementation of research processes. Oversees project workflows, monitors timelines, and ensures alignment with research protocols, scientific and organizational goals. Sets priorities for staff and facilitates collaboration across departments and research partners to advance organizational and project goals. Working closely with the AFCRI Scientific Director, PIGI Lab Co-Director, and Deputy Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Radiology, manage myriad competing obligations to ensure adherence to deadlines, completion of deliverables, and sound provision of related services.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of assigned area including the supervision of AFCRI OSD employees.
- Provide advice and guidance to AFCRI Scientific Director, faculty clinicians, lab members, and management of all clinical, translational, and basic research personnel activity, to include the oversight and development of training initiatives and standard operating procedures.
- Manages the administrative team on strategy development for all operational activities and ensures that appropriate strategies are aligned with institutional objectives.
- Develop best practices, methods, techniques, and operational standards for clinical, translational, and basic research across the enterprise.
- Manage administrative and educational program deliverables and oversee events, including the Distinguished Lectures in Cancer Research, Radiology Research Cores, research trainee events, faculty recruitment, and scientific visitors.
- Ensure streamlined and standardized processes, eliminate redundancies and ensure sound financial stewardship of space, equipment and expenditures.
- Partner with research finance team and administration to manage AFCRI OSD and education budgets.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships.
- Act as a liaison between key stakeholders including: commercial partners, alumni, sponsors, donors, institutional leadership, faculty, and extended organizational members.
- Direct communication of priorities to ensure execution of goals and milestones through regular meetings, status updates, other written communications, website updates, and social media content.
- Operationalize and oversee the data collection, archival and reporting of organizational metrics.
- Establish data collection methodologies, data validation, and the implementation of reporting technologies.
- Oversee adherence to quality standards, operational best practices, identify potential risks to short, intermediate, and long-term organizational goals.
- Ensure provision of appropriate services across the Radiology Research Division, PIGI Lab and AFCRI OSD constituents.

Requirements
- Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience working with financial systems, research software packages, and procurement of research and operational supplies, services, and equipment.
- Working knowledge of academic medicine environment.
- Position is contingent upon continued funding.
- Background checks may be required after a conditional job offer is made.
