About the Role

Support Web Summit’s media and communications team in building relationships with Chinese journalists and media organisations, particularly across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other Chinese-speaking markets. The ideal candidate is a bilingual PR/media professional who understands both Chinese and Western media, can build relationships with journalists, identify stories that will resonate with Chinese audiences, and turn Web Summit's speakers, partners, startups and technology stories into coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Identify compelling stories, build relationships with journalists, coordinate media opportunities and help position Web Summit, its speakers, partners, investors and startups within the Chinese media ecosystem.
  • Combine excellent communication skills with strong news judgement, cultural awareness and an ability to work at pace in a global events environment.
  • Develop relationships with China’s leading media, influencers, creators, and relevant communities, and ensure they attend our events.
  • Manage content for WeChat, Xiaohongshu, Weibo, Douyin, Bilibili and other relevant channels.
  • Take ownership of a number of content stages and tracks, becoming an expert on the media outlets and individuals who report on those tracks.
  • Use AI and data tools to ensure maximum efficiency, while maintaining immaculate records on Salesforce.
  • Convince world-renowned media professionals to speak at our events, or chair talks with other high-profile speakers.
  • Develop and execute coverage planning strategies with top-tier media outlets and individuals before our events.
  • Facilitate the best experience for the media during Web Summits.
  • Facilitate discussion and drive coverage across multiple platforms.
  • Work with journalists on a daily basis, making sure that every significant media outlet, reporter and creator across the globe knows about, travels to and covers our events.
  • Drive awareness of our events as the world’s premier tech conferences.
  • Secure the most impactful and relevant moderators for our stage content.
  • Arrange interviews, live podcasts, creator content, press conferences and announcements.
  • Track and analyse coverage.
  • Source and highlight relevant content for attending media.
  • Work closely with Web Summit’s key teams to ensure the maximum impact and visibility of their work.

Requirements

  • Native Mandarin Speaker - fluent, comfortable and confident in communicating in both Mandarin and English.
  • Strong understanding of the Chinese media landscape and the Chinese technology/business ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as WeChat, Weibo, Douyin, Xiaohongshu, Zhihu and other Chinese social media platforms.
  • Comfortable creating compelling Chinese-language posts, short-form video concepts, social campaigns and editorial content.
  • Creative, confident and articulate: a clear communicator with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable and resourceful individual who can work to tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Strategic thinker with a proven track record of planning, executing and evaluating activity on a long-term basis.
  • Excellent team player, but with the ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Confident using AI tools and data to help manage and focus your work.
  • Previous experience dealing with media - as a journalist, or in relevant PR or marketing functions.
  • Strong attention to detail in everything you do.
  • Proven track record of achieving targets.
