About the Role
Join the Core Tribe at Alma, a rapidly scaling European fintech company, to design critical financial and payment infrastructure. This role focuses on internal tooling and B2B/SaaS products, improving cross-tribe journeys and driving business impact. You will report to the Lead Product Designer and work within a team of experienced designers, taking ownership of the design for a dedicated area.
Responsibilities
- Own the user knowledge of your scope, designing for internal and external products including checkout, risk management, payment methods, and Open Banking.
- Independently run discovery, frame problems, select methods, and prioritize pain points based on impact and feasibility.
- Test and integrate international payment methods to increase checkout flexibility.
- Design end-to-end flows, including edge cases, system states, and error recovery.
- Write microcopy, balancing regulatory constraints and usability standards.
- Build on the existing Design System and identify needs for expansion.
- Define success metrics with Product Managers before go-live and track them afterward.
- Use data to support design arguments and quantify the impact of design choices on operational time, risk, and margin.
- Utilize AI for tasks such as synthesizing research, drafting documentation, and creating prototypes.
- Bring design culture and ways of working to the Core Tribe.
- Design local credit and payment journeys for European expansion, including regulatory changes.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of product design experience.
- Experience designing internal or back-office tools with dense data tables and multi-step workflows.
- Experience in complex domains that require significant understanding.
- Autonomous in discovery: owning user knowledge, problem framing, method selection, and research execution.
- Ability to design and ship complete flows, including edge cases and error states.
- Proficiency in writing copy for designs.
- Comfortable with data: reading dashboards, understanding key metrics, and using quantitative methods like survey design and funnel analysis.
- Experience working within a triad with Product Managers and Engineering Managers, shaping scope and trade-offs.
- Fluent in English and French.
- Experience working in a regulated environment with legal or compliance constraints is a plus.
- Experience shipping in multiple countries and dealing with localization and local rules is a plus.
- Experience contributing to a Design System is a plus.
- Experience working directly with Risk, Finance, or Ops teams as primary users is a plus.
