About the Role
The YMCA Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all members and guests using the aquatic facilities. Lifeguards create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment by maintaining constant surveillance, enforcing pool rules, responding to emergencies, and providing exceptional member service aligned with the YMCA’s mission and core values.
Responsibilities
- Monitor swimmers and ensure their safety at all times
- Enforce pool rules and regulations
- Respond to emergencies and provide first aid when necessary
- Maintain a clean and safe pool environment
- Communicate effectively with members and staff
- Attend regular training sessions and stay up-to-date on lifeguarding techniques and procedures
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Possess a current lifeguard certification or willing to obtain
- Strong swimming skills
- Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends
