About the Role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works under the direction of the Registered Nurse, collecting patient data, performing personal care, and assisting with patient needs to promote progress toward discharge. The PCT is trained in technical procedures like blood draws and EKGs, and helps maintain a safe and clean environment. They may also serve as an activity companion for patients requiring 1:1 observation.

Responsibilities

  • Collect patient data, including vital signs, height and weight, and food and fluid intake and output.
  • Report abnormal findings to the RN and patient care team.
  • Participate in care planning and the nursing report process.
  • Inform patients and families about their care using standardized techniques.
  • Provide personal care, including bathing, oral care, and skin care.
  • Assist patients with eating, hydration, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
  • Incorporate safe patient handling into restorative care, such as ambulation and range of motion exercises.
  • Employ strategies to promote a clean, orderly, and safe environment.
  • Demonstrate standard and transmission-based precautions and infection control techniques.
  • Provide details on patient progress toward goals and outcomes to the RN.
  • Document all care in the patient record.
  • Perform routine blood draws and EKGs as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Promote the availability of resources for patient care through collaboration with Materiel’s Coordinators for use, stocking, and storage of supplies.
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of a clean, orderly, and safe environment of care.
  • Provide the service of activity companion for patients requiring 1:1 observation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Honest, punctual, and performs the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC and the tenets of the profession.
  • Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees and others.
  • Access to information is based on a “need to know” and is the minimum necessary to properly perform assigned duties.
  • Use or disclosure shall not exceed the minimum amount of information needed to accomplish an intended purpose.
  • Reasonable efforts shall be made to ensure that information is adequately protected from unauthorized access and modification.

Experience Level

  • 6 months related experience in a health care setting or completion of certified nurse assistant course and/or experience as a paramedic, emergency technician is desired

Salary/Compensations

  • $43,599.00 - $56,679.00
