About the Role

The Business & Zoning Coordinator serves as a central point of contact for clients needing information to navigate the City of London's regulatory processes. This role involves examining permit and license applications for compliance, assessing data, recommending service enhancements, and responding to property transaction inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to clients on regulatory processes for zoning, licensing, and related matters.
  • Assist clients by identifying necessary actions to meet their needs based on technical knowledge of approval processes.
  • Support business clients facing complications in the business approvals process by liaising with City departments and external agencies.
  • Examine applications for various permits (building, demolition, sign, etc.) to ensure compliance with bylaws and approved plans.
  • Review drawings, plans, and specifications for signs to ensure compliance with the Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code.
  • Apply knowledge of planning, engineering, and municipal policy to review data and recommend improvements to business development practices and processes.
  • Respond to information and data requests from staff.
  • Examine and accept license applications for compliance with bylaws and regulations, input data, and schedule inspections.
  • Review and stamp survey plans for compliance with zoning bylaws.
  • Identify and request revisions to plans for compliance.
  • Accept fee payments, issue receipts, and balance cash receipts.
  • Furnish zoning information to staff and the public via telephone, written correspondence, or in person.
  • Provide information, advice, and recommendations related to city bylaws, including research, analysis, and problem-solving for land use issues.
  • Assist with Divisional issues through research and preparation of materials.
  • Prepare written referrals, reports, and presentations for sign minor variance appeal hearings and by-law amendments.
  • Attend and present at sign minor variance appeal hearings.
  • Conduct site visits to confirm application details.
  • Serve as Secretary-Treasurer to the Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards Committee, and provide support to the London Consent Authority.
  • Prepare agendas, reports, minutes, and correspondence for committees.
  • Provide assistance with selected Ontario Building Code matters.
  • Provide timely responses to inquiries.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three years of previous related experience providing an understanding of municipal land use issues, zoning and licensing matters.

Skills

  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code Act and regulations.
  • Effective customer service and public relations.
  • Knowledge of AMANDA software is an asset.
  • Ability to work expanded hours as necessary.
  • Knowledge of business approval processes, bylaws, and legislation relevant to small businesses.
  • Proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheet applications, and various software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience Level

Education Level

  • Three-year degree or advanced diploma in Construction Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Geography or Planning or equivalent program.

Salary/Compensations

  • $59,893 - $86,651
