About the Role

As a Commercial Lines Insurance Nonprofit Human Services Underwriting Specialist, you will grow and manage a book of commercial lines business. You will advise other underwriters and support staff on processes and procedures, and consult at the highest level of technical underwriting authority. Your role involves analyzing and assessing exposures and risks for Nonprofit Human Service Organizations and Education Institutions to determine adequate and competitive coverages and premiums. You will also build successful relationships with agents to drive business flow, working with limited supervision and exercising significant independent judgment. Accounts may include those up to $1,000,000 in written premium.

Responsibilities

Analyze, select, and profitably price business with prescriptive terms and conditions of coverage.
Examine inspection reports, location, risk, financial, and other available tools and reports to identify new or unresolved concerns.
Communicate with Risk Control for inspections, follow-ups, and service needs for insureds.
Drive corrective action or remediation strategies on renewal accounts.
Underwrite renewals referred by the underwriting assistant and renewals over $35K, working to achieve required rate change goals.
Discuss and issue non-renewals as needed.
Escalate referrals in a timely manner on accounts that need additional review or approval by higher-level underwriters.
Adhere to service expectations and regulatory compliance by the timely release of renewals, non-renewals, and conditional notices.
Develop and further successful relationships with distribution partners within the portfolio.
Coordinate with the distribution team to build pipeline, resolve issues, concerns, or conflict, and oversee change management.
Communicate regularly with portfolio team members on the health of assigned agencies and market conditions.
Develop and grow agency relationships through daily interactions and in-person visits.
Collaborate with the distribution team on cultivating agency relationships and new business opportunities.
Conduct peer audits.
Assist in the training of new hires and internal promotions by providing continuous mentoring and feedback.
Review, mentor, and approve referrals for lower authority level associates.
Perform other related work as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.
5+ years underwriting all commercial lines (Commercial Property, General Liability, Professional Liability, Worker's Compensation, Crime, Commercial Auto, Umbrella, etc).
Prefer Nonprofit Human Services and Education underwriting experience.
Excellent communication skills both in writing and verbal.
Ability to analyze and make decisions in a timely manner.
Working to obtain or has already CPCU or other industry equivalent.

$99,000 - $140,000 in CA, CT, MA, NJ, NY, and PA
