About the Role
The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is a member of the inter-professional care team and is expected to maintain a collaborative and active working relationship with team members in the provision of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.
- Perform tasks delegated by an RN or RPN in compliance with the RHPA for which appropriate education and training has been completed.
- Communicate and demonstrate basic information in accordance with a patient’s pre-established Plan of Care.
- Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by reporting and documenting unsafe conditions and patient changes.
- Complete and maintain related patient records and progress notes, as per hospital policy.
Requirements
- Successful completion of a PSW program from an accredited community college.
- Registration with HSCPOA (The Health and Supportive Care Oversight Authority).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate.
- Ability to handle daily mild to moderate physical exertion on an occasional to frequent basis.
- Good attendance record is required.
- Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record along with satisfactory attendance to be eligible for consideration.

Skills
- Behavioral management training (such as PIECES, U-First, CPI) is considered an asset.
- Acute care and/or previous rehab experience considered an asset.
