About the Role

The Public Finance Trading desk makes a secondary market in, and stands ready to purchase and sell, municipal bonds for Truist Securities fixed income investor clients and supports our bond origination and syndication business.

Responsibilities

  • Manage individual public finance trading book with multiple sectors including risk management, trade execution, trade analysis, sector analysis, idea generation, and hedging.
  • Generate P&L and maintain market share in assigned sectors.
  • Communicate and engage with the Sales team to define views and trading strategy within respective sectors.
  • Analyze and evaluate credit market and security specific opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships across the Credit account base.
  • Collaborate with Public Finance Origination banking teams to originate and distribute Truist Left Lead deals and support Co Managed deals.
  • Manage desk capital to execute firm and customer trades in accordance with desk risk parameters.
  • Manage individual credit trading book with multiple sectors including risk management, trade execution, pre/post trade analysis, sector analysis, idea generation, hedging, and attributable P&L.
  • Independently manage risk (position management/hedging/risk assessment/macro analysis).
  • Partner closely with research, banking professionals, product specialists, clients and other internal/external constituencies to help drive business growth.
  • Apply expert risk management skills and set the standard for risk management practices for Public Finance Trading in accordance with risk and regulatory limits.
  • Provide efficient, effective and differentiated execution for clients, fellow teammates and stakeholders.

  • Maintain extensive and deep current Public Finance client relationships, a track record of success in new client relationship development, and advancement of existing client relationships to drive future business growth.
  • Lead support work, business development and/or product/client relationship management when needed.
  • Assist in the generation of ideas and strategies for new business opportunities.
  • Lead all aspects of transaction execution, including organizing teams and handling engagement with internal and external constituencies, and managing resolution of complex client transaction issues.
  • Build cross-functional relationships within the investment bank and leverage these relationships to aid in communication and desk/firm.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and directing the work of junior teammates.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree
  • 12 years of related work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Public Finance industry, market, and products
  • Proven track record in revenue generation and entrepreneurial nature
  • Extensive track record of prudent risk management
  • Advanced analytical and technical skills combined with a problem solving attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal style, good listening skills and the ability to communicate highly complex ideas clearly and concisely
  • Strong partnering and leadership skills in a complex, matrixed environment
  • CFA and/or MBA degree, with a Finance focus
  • 10 years of related work experience
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching
  • Technology / Coding experience (Python, R, VBA, ect.)
  • Licensing 7, 63 (53 helpful)
