About the Role
The Misra laboratory at Stony Brook is seeking a Research Support Specialist to join their NIH-funded research group. The research focuses on growth regulation by Hippo signaling during drosophila development and cancer, utilizing Drosophila developmental genetics, cell biology, and biochemistry. Substantial training will be provided for techniques. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professional competence in research activities. Recent graduates with a background in biological sciences, academic productivity, and excellent references are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Perform protein, RNA, and DNA preparation, molecular cloning, and purification of recombinant protein from E. coli, insect cells, etc., and analyses.
- Conduct mammalian cell culture using sterile techniques.
- Perform biochemical analysis through kinase assays, Western Blotting, etc.
- Maintain Drosophila stocks, set up genetic crosses, perform dissections, immunostaining, and confocal microscopy.
- Analyze data and participate in manuscript writing for publication; may assist in grant writing.
- Maintain laboratory reagents and equipment.
- Train new personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biomedical sciences or a related field.
- Research experience in a laboratory setting.
- Experience with basic molecular and cell biology.
- Ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities.
