About the Role

The SONAR Hull Arrays team develops, qualifies, integrates, tests, and supports SONAR hull arrays and sensors for all submarine classes. This role involves systems engineering for contractor-furnished SONAR systems, including Large Aperture Bow (LAB) Array, Light Weight Wide Aperture Array (LWWAA), High Frequency Chin Array (HFCA), CAVES Bow Conformal Array, SSN(X) concept arrays and sensors, and various Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) SONAR components. The engineer will manage efforts from concept and design through integration, testing, and fleet support, including problem resolution and obsolescence assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform systems engineering efforts from initial concept, system design and development through hardware/software integration, component qualification, testing, construction support, delivery and post-delivery support.
  • Analyze and resolve fleet-identified problems.
  • Assess obsolescence issues and identify components for technical refresh.
  • Perform technology investigations and trade-studies.
  • Identify and resolve program risks.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Validate methods to ensure producible end products.
  • Interface with the NAVSEA customer, Naval Shipyards, NAVY Labs, UARCs, sub-contractors and other EB departments and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance through the Department of Defense
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree (Preferred)
  • Engineering project management experience (Preferred)
  • Experience in underwater acoustics, submarine electronics/SONAR system development, integration, installation and test (Preferred)
  • Understanding of design, build, sustain process, EVMS and design tools and processes is desirable
