About the Role
The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is seeking Head Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and Floaters for infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms. Staff work collaboratively as a teaching team to provide safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care and education.
Responsibilities
- Implements the developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive curriculum and lesson plans provided by program leadership.
- Reviews assigned plans in advance, prepares materials and learning centers, and carries out planned individual and group experiences.
- Provides active supervision and maintains required ratios, head counts, and safe transitions.
- Observes and documents children's development, maintains required records, and shares concerns or referral recommendations with the Director.
- Maintains respectful communication with families and accurately communicates center policies, referring questions to program leadership.
- Carries out classroom routines and schedules in cooperation with teaching-team members.
- Maintains health, sanitation, and safety standards in accordance with licensing requirements and center policy.
- Builds warm relationships with children and uses developmentally appropriate guidance practices consistent with NAEYC standards.
- Collaborates with coworkers, supports classroom coverage, and participates in required meetings and trainings.
- Works respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and demonstrates a commitment to racial, gender, and socioeconomic equity.
- Follows Volunteer Services procedures when applicable and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications for Head Teachers: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum Qualifications for Head Teachers: At least two years of relevant early childhood experience and/or training. Age-group-specific experience is preferred for infant and toddler assignments.
- Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Teachers and Floaters: At least an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Teachers and Floaters: At least two years of relevant early childhood experience and/or training.
- Must meet current New York State licensing requirements and complete all required clearances, medical documentation, screenings, and trainings.
