About the Role
The Activationist will plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and activities that encourage, maintain, and promote dignity and self-worth in clients. This role involves leading groups, maintaining daily operations, co-designing individualized program plans, and ensuring quality service standards are met.
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and activities that encourage, maintain, and promote dignity and self-worth in clients.
- Lead groups through a schedule of activities and maintain daily operations of the program.
- Monitor programs to ensure activities are delivered according to program goals and make adjustments based on client needs, abilities, and interests.
- Co-design and facilitate individualized program plans with clients and caregivers.
- Ensure quality service standards are met in accordance with operational guidelines.
- Motivate and encourage clients to participate in individual and group programs addressing their physical and psycho-social needs, as well as Activity of Daily Living Skills.
- Provide support, information, and education to clients and their primary caregivers.
- Recognize and manage responsive behaviors and report escalations to the Supervisor, collaborating with professional and resource persons to de-escalate issues.
- Contribute to the community outreach activities of the program.
- Monitor and attend to clients’ personal, safety, and hygiene needs.
- Conduct billing, data entry, documentation, statistics, meal orders, and transportation arrangements for clients.
- Escort and/or transport clients to and from the program and ensure pathways are clear of snow, etc.
Requirements
- 2 years college diploma in activation or gerontology.
- 2 years of demonstrated experience designing and leading activities for frail and/or cognitively impaired adults.
Skills
- Fluent in verbal and written English.
- Excellent communication skills in working with seniors.
- Good knowledge and skills in leading group activities.
- Good knowledge and skills in providing personal care services.
- Good knowledge and skills in behavioral management techniques.
- Comfortable working with staff and clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong computer skills in Windows environment.
- Second language(s) considered a strong asset.
- Training in CPR and First Aid is an asset.
