About the Role
This role involves providing technical and professional enforcement services within Housing Regulatory Services to protect and improve the health, safety, and welfare of residents, workers, and visitors in the Borough. The position is within the HMO Licensing Team, focusing on investigating complaints, ensuring compliance, and taking appropriate enforcement action. The role requires independent work in a hybrid manner, flexibility to support complex cases, and taking on specialisms and leading training initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Investigating complaints within the HMO Licensing Team.
- Following up on compliance issues.
- Taking enforcement action as appropriate.
- Working independently in a hybrid manner.
- Making appropriate enforcement actions and decisions.
- Being flexible and supporting other officers on complex enforcement cases.
- Taking on specific additional relevant specialisms.
- Leading on specialisms for the department.
- Supporting the in-house training scheme.
Requirements
- Considerable experience working as a Housing Enforcement Officer.
- Demonstrable experience of completing HHSRS assessments.
- Experience taking enforcement action under the Housing Act 2004 and associated legislation.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Comfortable working with a wide range of people and organisations to deal with difficult or complex issues.
- Experience in taking complex housing enforcement action, including issuing penalty notices and taking prosecutions.
