About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Facilities Technician to support the ongoing operation, maintenance, and upkeep of an aging commercial/industrial facility. The role focuses on performing basic preventive and corrective maintenance, coordinating with external vendors for specialized work, and ensuring the building systems remain functional and safe.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and basic facility maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, lighting, door/hardware repairs, and general building upkeep.
- Inspect, monitor, and perform basic maintenance on the facility’s heat pump systems. Report issues promptly and assist with seasonal start-up/shut-down tasks associated with environmental equipment as directed.
- Coordinate and schedule work with external vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance, repairs, inspections, and services (HVAC support, roofing, electrical, plumbing, elevator, fire/life safety, etc.). Obtain quotes, track work orders, and ensure work is completed on time and to standard.
- Conduct regular facility walk-throughs and inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, or aging infrastructure issues; document findings and prioritize corrective and preventative actions.
- Respond to work orders and occupant requests in a timely manner; troubleshoot basic building system problems.
- Maintain a facility budget, accurate records of maintenance activities, vendor work, inventory of common supplies, and equipment status.
- Support compliance with safety, fire, and building code requirements; assist during inspections or emergency situations as needed.
- Keep mechanical rooms, storage areas, and common spaces organized and free of hazards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the reliable operation of an aging facility.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related hands-on technical role.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC principles, and general building systems.
- Familiarity with advanced heating/cooling systems and LockOut/TagOut is a plus.
- Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Comfortable working on an aging facility with older infrastructure and systems.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a safety-first mindset.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
- Computer and Communication skills required.
- Physically able to lift moderate loads, climb ladders, access roof areas (when safe), and work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions.
- This position requires the ability to hear, have visual acuity, and manual dexterity.
- This position would routinely lift up to 40 pounds, and occasionally more.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain this certification is a plus.
