About the Role

Oversee Morningstar’s Japan Editorial edition, delivering engaging, high-quality, and informative articles, videos, breaking news, and commentary to Japan readers. Coverage includes stocks, bonds, funds, ETFs, economic news, and monetary/fiscal policy.

Responsibilities

  • Grow engagement with Morningstar’s Japanese editorial coverage and website.
  • Edit and publish a regular flow of data-driven articles, videos, news and analysis to Morningstar’s Japan website.
  • Monitor US and European Morningstar websites for articles of interest to Japanese investors.
  • Manage the programming and lineups of the Japan and Asia regional websites.
  • Work with a global team of journalists to develop and fine-tune engaging stories about markets and investing.
  • Ensure all articles meet Morningstar’s high standards for quality and clarity.
  • Incorporate SEO best practices into articles.
  • Write clear and engaging headlines.
  • Act as the primary editor for the Japan edition.
  • Coordinate with equity research and manager research to develop articles on upcoming longer reports.
  • Monitor market trends of importance to Japanese investors and coordinate with research teams for potential articles.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience editing and writing investing or markets articles.
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing/reading in English.
  • Proven ability to shape a compelling lede, succinct conclusion, and overall story structure.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize copy flow under time pressure.
  • Experience editing stories on deadline, at speed, without sacrificing high editorial standards.
  • Confidence in adopting new technologies into daily workflow and interest in innovation.
  • Experience leveraging financial data platforms (e.g. Morningstar, Factset, Bloomberg) as part of the editorial process.
  • Familiarity with Morningstar research and data.
  • Comfort with Excel.
  • Experience of working in a large organization with multiple teams and reporting lines.
  • Experience working with teams where English is not the first language for some members.
