About the Role
Taylor & Francis is investing in digital transformation and seeks a Principal Business Analyst to support its Business Architecture function. This role will lead complex, cross-domain analysis, contribute to building the T&F business architecture, and help establish standards and methodologies for business analysis across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex and cross-domain analysis initiatives, defining scope, approach, dependencies, and resource needs.
- Coordinate Domain Business Analysts through design and implementation, ensuring coherence and resolving conflicts.
- Own requirements coherence across domain boundaries, preventing contradictions.
- Lead requirements elicitation and facilitation for high-ambiguity or senior-stakeholder initiatives.
- Lead feasibility and options analysis for significant initiatives, presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Manage stakeholder relationships across domain teams and senior product, delivery, and engineering stakeholders.
- Contribute to UAT planning across domains for cross-domain initiatives.
- Maintain analytical quality throughout design and implementation, escalating contentious analysis problems.
- Act as the primary BA point of contact for the Business Architect within the domain group.
- Ensure BA work feeds the business architecture, documenting processes, organizational structures, systems, and data flows.
- Lead the documentation of capability-level processes, organizational structures, systems, and data flows.
- Support the creation and analysis of Business Decision Records (BDRs).
- Validate that initiative analysis aligns with the target architecture and domain model.
- Jointly define and maintain T&F BA methodology, standards, templates, and shared vocabulary.
- Jointly define the BA competency framework and progression model.
- Jointly run the T&F BA community of practice.
- Jointly define requirements governance and UAT standards for the BA community.
- Provide quality oversight of BA outputs within the aligned domain group.
- Coach Domain BAs on technique, standards, and approach.
Requirements
- Hold authority through expertise, not position.
- Comfortable leading large, ambiguous initiatives while coordinating Business Analysts not formally managed.
- Confident raising standards of a mixed BA team with varying skills and backgrounds.
- Communicate clearly in writing and in person, especially with senior business and engineering audiences.
- Patience to build business architecture and BA capability incrementally.
- Nurture an open environment where stakeholders and collaborators feel involved and heard.
- Work across silos to articulate and achieve shared goals.
- Willing to challenge constructively, including pushing back on delivery pressure when it conflicts with BA practice standards.
- Exceptional ability to analyze complex problems, frame them well, and drive towards decisions with the customer in mind.
- Degree-level education, or equivalent professional experience.
- Substantial track record of business analysis in complex, multi-domain organisations.
- Demonstrated experience scoping and leading large, complex or cross-domain analysis initiatives end-to-end.
- Demonstrated experience setting BA standards and methodology in a federated or distributed delivery environment.
- Direct experience working alongside enterprise or business architects on capability-driven analysis and design.
- Strong track record of engaging at senior stakeholder level.
- Coaching and developmental experience with junior or mid-career BAs.
- Demonstrated experience of working with colleagues in multiple locations and time zones.
- Must have the right to work and live in UK.
