About the Role
Cynch AI is seeking a senior software engineer to build neuro-symbolic AI applications for tax professionals. This role focuses on backend systems, data models, and execution engines, leveraging AI tooling to enhance engineering velocity and software quality.
Responsibilities
- Own substantial product and platform work from problem definition through production rollout, collaborating with founders, product, AI, operations, and domain experts.
- Build backend systems with clear APIs, well-modeled data, reliable execution, useful observability, and maintainable code.
- Transform messy operational workflows into clean software abstractions, internal tools, automations, and customer-facing features.
- Continuously identify areas where AI meaningfully improves software quality and velocity.
- Improve the engineering system through better tools, patterns, deployment practices, observability, and reduced technical debt.
- Mentor other engineers by enhancing design discussions, implementation choices, reviews, and production ownership.
Requirements
- Experience building production software where correctness, performance, and reliability are critical.
- Deep backend expertise with the ability to work across the full stack.
- Direct responsibility for a production system with significant engineering complexity related to correctness, performance, reliability, or scale.
- Experience designing data models, execution paths, background jobs, queues, retries, observability, and operational workflows for systems under production load and failure modes.
- Experience building systems where the core challenge involved technical depth, such as workflow execution, rule evaluation, document processing, search/indexing, data pipelines, distributed jobs, DSL implementation, or correctness-sensitive automation.
- Experience in an early-stage environment with evolving requirements and broad ownership.
- Strong product judgment, shipping code that effectively solves problems.
- Experience owning ambiguous, technically complex systems end-to-end, making architectural decisions, debugging production issues, and improving engineering standards.
- Ability to lead projects, accept feedback, engage in thoughtful discussions, and deliver work.
- Recent work experience should extend beyond marketing sites, simple CRUD applications, prompt wrappers, prototypes, or frontend-only product surfaces, focusing on building underlying systems for AI-assisted workflows.
