About the Role

The Emergency Department Registration Assistant is responsible for ensuring all patients are registered according to departmental policy and procedure. This role collaborates with nursing and other staff to ensure an efficacious process flow and adherence to regulatory mandates.

Responsibilities

  • Performs registration functions and general office duties including word processing, copying, filing, faxing, answering phones and data entry.
  • Verifies patient information, gathering and confirming demographic details, insurance data, and financial obligations.
  • Explains the content of all required forms and obtains signatures.
  • Reviews and evaluates patient registrations for accuracy of demographic and financial information.
  • Collects co-payment, deductible, and co-insurance amounts.
  • Refers self-pay patients to financial aid/self-pay representatives.
  • Develops and maintains positive customer service with all patients, colleagues, visitors, and vendors.
  • Maintains current knowledge of insurance information, managed care guidelines, and designated networks.
  • Utilizes data retrieval insurance eligibility systems.
  • Manages RQA reports by resolving errors and producing corrected accounts.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Abides by documentation guidelines consistently.
  • Adheres to all company and department policies and procedures regarding confidentiality, regulatory or contractual mandates, and HR policy.
  • Practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with hospital policies and HIPAA requirements.
  • Complies with departmental dress code and maintains a neat appearance.
  • Performs other department-specific duties as deemed appropriate by Management.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and multitasking skills.
  • Basic office skills and computer literacy.
  • Customer Service and support skills.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen.
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
