About the Role

Relay is a digital banking platform designed to empower self-made business owners with financial clarity, confidence, and control. The Engineering team builds innovative banking products, and we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Voyager) to contribute to our AI and insights initiatives. This role involves building foundational technology for AI, exploring emerging technologies, and supporting product teams in leveraging AI capabilities.

Responsibilities

Build and deploy secure, reusable LLM systems for differentiated product experiences, managing them across their full lifecycle.
Lead exploratory initiatives to evaluate and validate emerging technologies, providing adoption recommendations.
Provide tooling, patterns, and guidance to enable teams to ship AI workflows quickly and safely.
Partner with product teams as an AI expert to guide technical decisions.
Proactively identify and drive improvements in technical, process, and product areas, influencing technical direction and strategy.

Requirements

3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience.
Experience leading the development of significant components or features with minimal oversight.
Ability to transition between exploration and production work.
Strong judgment regarding emerging technology.
Mentorship of junior engineers.
Proactive drive for enhancements in code quality, performance optimization, and development processes.
Lifelong learner, curious about new frameworks, best practices, and emerging technologies.
Thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments with ambiguity and change.
Collaborative team player, willing to pitch in, ask questions, and provide/receive feedback.
Takes end-to-end ownership, solving problems creatively and proactively with customer and business impact in mind.
Experience in startups or high-growth tech companies is a bonus.
Hands-on experience building with LLMs, including self-hosting, serving open models, retrieval systems, evaluation, or agentic workflows is a bonus.
Experience building platform or shared services used by other engineering teams is a bonus.
Experience with JavaScript (TypeScript, React, Node.js) is a bonus.
Working knowledge of AWS services (ECS, S3, RDS, Dynamo, Lambda) and continuous deployment pipelines is a bonus.
