About the Role

The Solution Architect translates client business requirements into specific systems, applications, or process designs for very large, complex technology solutions and architectures. You will act as an advocate for the client, serving as the ultimate authority on the architecture designed to address their business problems. This role involves providing direction for design activities, often project-based, and may require working at customer sites.

Responsibilities

Gather customer/partner insights from a broad range of stakeholders and the main business sponsor to shape and form project definition and ongoing execution.
Socialize business solutions and project approaches with customer/partner stakeholders and business sponsors to determine necessary changes.
Use an evidence-based approach to represent the customer/partner as a customer advocate and share insights with Product Engineering teams and the business to improve Microsoft technologies, products, services, and offerings.
Define and document the architecture through an architecture description document, an architecture decisions log, and a requirements/constraints traceability matrix.
Communicate the value proposition of the business solution and the project approach.
Work with customers to understand and demonstrate the business value realized by the business solution.
Manage and resolve ambiguity in requirements and constraints, documenting assumptions and implications where resolution is not possible.
Generate new and/or improve existing intellectual property, connecting gaps and patterns across business and technology areas to drive changes.
Identify ideas for culling, considering scale across customers, and drive the re-use of intellectual property.
Recommend practices in both pre-sales and delivery.
Participate and contribute to internal/external communities.
Lead virtual teams around technologies and customer/partner challenges by sharing ideas, insight, and strategic, technical input.
Share knowledge with technical teams, internal communities across the field, and the larger virtual team across Microsoft using knowledge of Microsoft architectures and their context in the competitive landscape.

Requirements

Strong understanding of complex business problems to ensure projects leverage appropriate technology and technical design.
Enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, architecture designs, database migrations, and technology management.
Experience moving data from on-premises data platforms to the cloud.
Experience designing cloud-native data warehouse platforms.
Experience working with transactional, temporal, time series, and structured and unstructured data.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, storage optimization, and query optimizations.
Experience delivering/managing the lifecycle of software/services using DevOps/MLOps.
Proficiency in data modeling and design, including SQL development and database administration.
Experience with cloud platforms, such as Azure, to manage and integrate data systems.
Knowledge of big data developments and technology architectures.
Familiarity with data security measures and compliance regulations.
Ability to design and model database, data warehouse, and data flow infrastructures.
Understanding of data integration and the tools to manage data flow.
2+ years managing multiple projects or portfolios.
1+ year(s) experience leading blended, multidisciplinary teams.
6+ years technical sales experience.
6+ years project management experience.
3+ years people management experience, including managing consultant practice managers, technical sales managers, and/or technical architect managers.
