About the Role
In this role, the journalist will take on more complex assignments, lead on major stories, mentor junior colleagues, and demonstrate a higher level of journalistic expertise and in-depth knowledge of structured products, while managing their workload with greater autonomy.
Responsibilities
- Provide first edits from the HK Correspondent.
- Assist with reporting or editing from insights contributors.
- Take the reins of regular reports, particularly at the publication stage.
- Produce higher-quality reporting, including in-depth data analysis.
- Keep track of weekly Spotlights to ensure the sequence.
- Research and gather information on newsworthy events and issues relevant to our audience.
- Conduct interviews with sources and stakeholders to gather background and quotes for articles.
- Write clear, concise, and compelling news articles, ensuring adherence to journalistic standards and ethics.
- Assist in the development of multimedia content, including reports and webinars.
- Collaborate with junior reporters and editors to identify trending topics and develop story ideas.
- Attend press conferences, community events, and other relevant gatherings to cover breaking news and report live.
- Maintain a strong understanding of current events and issues affecting our industry and beyond.
- Keep the director of content regularly informed of market news in the region they are covering and potential stories for commissioning.
- Keep the data and editorial teams informed of new structured products and trends.
- Inform analysts of potential contacts that would assist them in their market analysis.
Requirements
- Some experience writing high-quality content for a reputable news organization.
- An understanding of how financial markets work or a willingness to learn more.
- Interest in business and finance is a must.
- An excellent eye for detail.
- The ability to create imaginative, accurate, and compelling news and feature stories.
- The ability to explain technical concepts accurately and engagingly.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable networking.
- Experience creating content for the web and social media platforms.
- Experience of public speaking.
