About the Role
Paramount Streaming is seeking a Director of Analytics Engineering to lead the Content & Subscriber Analytics Engineering team. This role involves creating the technical vision and strategy for content and subscriber data, building and leading a team to convert raw data into reliable datasets and insights, and ensuring the organization has well-managed data for decision-making across Paramount+, Pluto TV, and the overall streaming portfolio. This is an ideal role for a hands-on leader who has experience building and scaling analytics engineering teams and wants to own data strategy across both domains.
Responsibilities
- Build, lead, and grow a team of analytics engineers and analysts covering both content metadata and subscriber data domains.
- Set technical strategy and roadmap for content and subscriber data infrastructure, balancing near-term stakeholder needs with long-term platform investment.
- Establish and champion coding standards, data governance practices, and documentation norms across the team.
- Partner with engineering, product, and business executive teams to align data priorities with company strategy.
- Own the strategy and plan for content metadata pipelines, including title catalogs, rights and licensing windows, genres, talent, franchise/series hierarchies, and availability.
- Own the strategy and plan for subscriber data pipelines, covering acquisition, plan tier and pricing changes, billing status, and cancellation or win-back events.
- Ensure reliable data models for content metadata (for precise title, franchise, and window reporting) and subscriber data (covering the whole subscriber lifecycle for retention, churn, and lifetime value analysis).
- Drive data quality initiatives in both content (e.g., duplicate titles, conflicting rights windows, incorrect taxonomy tagging) and subscriber data (e.g., billing discrepancies, plan misclassification, duplicate accounts).
- Contribute to anomaly detection systems and operational dashboards that track content catalog health, subscriber funnel performance, and data quality KPIs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, Statistics, Analytics, Computer Science, MIS, Data Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in analytical engineering, data engineering, or data analytics, including experience managing or leading a team.
- Solid SQL and data modeling expertise, with deep knowledge of ETL/ELT principles, data architecture, and performance optimization.
- Proven track record building and scaling data platforms and pipelines using tools such as Databricks, Airflow, Spark, or similar.
- Direct experience with content metadata, including title catalogs, rights and windowing data, and genre or talent taxonomies. Comparable structured entertainment or media data is also acceptable.
- Direct experience with subscriber and subscription data, including working with acquisition, billing, plan tiers, and churn or retention events.
- Experience working in a subscription or direct-to-consumer business.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders from various functions and turn unclear business needs into a clear technical strategy.
- Fluency in cloud-based data environments (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and BI tools such as Looker and Tableau.
- Solid track record establishing data hygiene practices, including version control, code review standards, testing, and documentation, across a team.
- Great judgment and attention to detail, particularly when balancing competing priorities across two distinct data domains.
