About the Role

The General Manager is responsible for managing the daily activities of snow removal operations. During Spring and Summer months, responsibilities include broadening customer retention, enhancing customer service, exploring new revenue opportunities, recruiting staff, promoting a safe work environment, and ensuring excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates contract service delivery requirements, schedules, develops plans, and recommends improvements.
  • Collaborates with the Fleet Department to assess equipment needs and create work orders for maintenance and repairs.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the snow removal/operator program, including safety, recruitment, orientation, training, support, and recognition.
  • Partners with support departments to ensure compliance and positive employee experiences.
  • Provides job information for dispatched snow removal equipment and personnel.
  • Solves customer problems by understanding and exceeding expectations.
  • Illustrates the value of products and services to create growth opportunities.
  • Attends conferences, meetings, and social functions representing the company brand.
  • Works with Sales to develop a networking and prospecting plan.
  • Collaborates with Sales on new business opportunities to facilitate contract closure.
  • Responds promptly to customer inquiries for scheduling work and estimate requests.
  • Maintains regular communication with key customers.
  • Ensures compliance of vendors and contractors providing snow removal services.
  • Reviews, analyzes, modifies, and implements efficient department budgets, P&L statements, processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all operating systems relevant to the work area.
  • Stays updated on team activities, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions.
  • Provides clear and informative direction to the work group through timely feedback.
  • Enforces established safety guidelines and promotes a safe workplace.
  • Maintains accurate records and metrics, performing audits as necessary.
  • Responds to external customer questions and resolves problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Periodically travels locally or nationally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Snow Removal / Construction Experience or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a people management role.
  • Previous Account Management/Customer Service experience is a plus.
  • Scheduling/Dispatch experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Proven leadership and business acumen skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced understanding of basic office applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and see.
  • Long hours during snow removal operations with 24/7 availability.
  • Regularly/occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
