About the Role
The Department of Elections is seeking seasonal Poll Worker Dispatch and Ballot Delivery Drivers for the November 3, 2026, Consolidated General Election. This role involves driving, delivery, and dispatch duties to support Election Day operations, including transporting poll workers and election supplies throughout San Francisco.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a City sedan, van, or other assigned vehicle to transport standby poll workers, ballots, election supplies, and other materials.
- Transport standby poll workers from City Hall to polling places and return poll workers or materials as directed.
- Deliver and retrieve ballots and related election materials from voters participating in the Emergency Ballot Delivery Program.
- Follow assigned routes, schedules, delivery instructions, and established procedures.
- Use a smartphone and navigation applications for routing and communication.
- Maintain communication with Poll Worker Dispatch staff and report delays or issues.
- Handle and transport ballots, election materials, and supplies carefully.
- Maintain routine delivery, pickup, dispatch, or other basic records.
- Load, unload, carry, and distribute election supplies and materials.
- Assist with Poll Worker Dispatch operations, including basic clerical, organizational, and logistical tasks.
- Assist with Voting Center line management, provide polling place support, or assist with other Election Day assignments.
- Perform other basic clerical, election-related, and post-election tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining records, filing, use of office equipment, public contact, and processing mail.
- Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.
- Valid California driver's license.
- Driving record with no more than 2 points within the last 3 years and no more than 1 point within the last year.
- No DUI, reckless driving, or endangerment violations within the last 10 years.
- Comfortable driving a sedan and/or van for extended periods throughout San Francisco.
- Able to safely navigate San Francisco streets and locate assigned destinations.
- Able to use a smartphone for navigation and communication.
- Able to lift and handle election supplies and materials weighing up to 22 pounds.
- Must present a valid California driver's license and a current copy of DMV driving record before an offer of employment.
