About the Role

The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic collaborates with repair team members to ensure vehicles are operating safely and efficiently, meeting driver needs and DOT compliances.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare work orders after fully inspecting vehicles and equipment, including trailers.
  • Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to offer suitable solutions.
  • Inspect vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering, and exhausts.
  • Repair or replace vehicle transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, and other associated parts.
  • Conduct field visits for emergencies or breakdowns.
  • Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge performance.
  • Complete oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment, and brake checks.
  • Maintain records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles.
  • Drive a culture of safety, accountability, and opportunistic curiosity.
  • Contribute to creating an environment where people want to work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification and training in diesel engine repair from a vocational school or community college, including drive trains, preventive maintenance, inspection, engine architecture, and electronic systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of vehicles, their electrical systems, and diesel engine mechanisms.
  • In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms.
  • Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment.
  • Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics.
  • Proficiency in using diesel engine diagnostic software.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills.
  • CDL class A or B preferred, although not required.
  • Welding skills are a plus.
  • Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 75 lbs, bend, kneel, stand for long periods, work in confined spaces, work at heights, and in outside weather conditions.
  • Exhibit good work habits, including excellent attendance and individual productivity.
