About the Role
The San Francisco SPCA is seeking a Lead Pharmacy Technician to oversee all pharmacy operations, ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient dispensing of medications. This role focuses on operational efficiency, staff development, and providing exceptional client service, while fostering collaboration across departments to enhance pharmacy team performance.
Responsibilities
- Manage pharmacy inventory and ordering, and collaborate with Inventory Coordinator on variances
- Develop and maintain pharmacy protocols, policies, and workflows
- Ensure regulatory compliance and accurate medication management
- Lead pharmacy training and development, including development of training programs and materials and training and coaching for both new and existing pharmacy staff
- Enhance the client experience and pharmacy environment to provide the best customer experience possible
- Provide leadership to Pharmacy team by fostering teamwork, high professional standards, continuing development and promoting effective communication
- Identify, evaluate and implement opportunities to improve Pharmacy performance, customer service, and operational efficiency
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with culturally diverse clients, staff, and volunteers using strong interpersonal, conflict mediation, and de-escalation skills to address concerns and resolve complaints tactfully and courteously
Requirements
- 3+ years of pharmacy technician experience in veterinary or human pharmacy.
- For candidates coming from human pharmacy, current Pharmacy Technician licensure/registration is required.
- Experience managing pharmacy workflows, including in-house and/or online prescription processing and fulfillment.
- Knowledge of pharmacy inventory management, including stocking, expiration monitoring, and ensuring medications and supplies are available when needed.
- Working knowledge of DEA regulations and controlled-substance handling.
- Experience using pharmacy or medical inventory management systems; experience with Cubex is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a high-volume pharmacy environment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, veterinary teams, and internal departments.
- Experience coordinating medication and supply needs across multiple departments is preferred.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
- Regular sitting at computer stations and operation of electronic equipment
- Regular standing, bending, stooping and crouching
- Regularly moves about the campus to coordinate work
- Regular exposure to animals under stress
- Consistent exposure to animals in the workplace and animal allergens in conditions with limited alternatives available
