About the Role

East Side House Settlement is a community resource in the South Bronx dedicated to empowering individuals and families through education, career, and supportive services. We believe education is key to creating economic and civic opportunities. This role will guide the design and implementation of instructional programming for Elementary School, focusing on academic interventions and learning strategies for a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and implementation of engaging, standards-aligned units, lesson plans, and projects.
  • Consult with the Program Director regarding thematic frameworks, curriculum implementation, and strategies for youth development.
  • Forge relationships with school personnel to ensure curriculum and instruction meet diverse learner needs, align with STEAM and Common Core State Standards, and meet contractual expectations.
  • Monitor program data, consult on program improvement, and support communication with school leadership.
  • Provide instructional and curriculum development support through observations, coaching, and resource development.
  • Design assessment and goal setting instruments and oversee staff and interns through their implementation.
  • Assist with training and professional development workshops.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children through close supervision.
  • Provide fun, innovative, age-appropriate program activities and develop lesson plans for Group Leaders.
  • Establish positive working relationships with staff, parents, and participants through effective communication.

Requirements

  • Must have a strong understanding of the school’s culture and needs.
  • Must have experience with curriculum implementation.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding and practice of the principles of positive youth development.
  • Attend relevant meetings, trainings, workshops, outside events, and organization-wide activities as required.
  • Clearance by the Department of Health (DOH).
  • Clearance by the Department of Education (DOE).
  • Clearance from the New York State Child Abuse Registry.
  • Physical with TB screen.
  • Must obtain NYC Dept. of Health fingerprint clearance and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance.
  • Mandated Reporter training.
  • Health & Safety Training.

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master's in Education preferred

Salary/Compensations

  • $42.00 - $42.00 Hourly
