About the Role
At the Austin Fleet Mobility Department, we manage over 7,500 vehicles across 25 departments, supporting essential city services with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and efficiency. This position is responsible for various programs supporting the Fleet Services Division's business goals.
Responsibilities
- Establishes fleet program standards, methods, policies, and procedures.
- Develops business plans by reviewing department needs and estimating costs.
- Establishes priorities, schedules activities and employees, and monitors progress.
- Manages equipment and facilities by establishing maintenance procedures and evaluating new equipment.
- Responsible for budgetary requirements, purchasing, monitoring reports, approving expenditures, and compiling costs.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge of assigned programs.
- Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
Requirements

- Class "C" Driver's License required.
- Heavy physical requirements: tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Experience managing accident and collision repair programs, including vendor coordination, repair estimates, quality assurance, and return-to-service timelines.
- Experience overseeing internal fleet shuttle operations, including scheduling, staffing coordination, service delivery, and customer-facing transportation support.
- Experience managing internal rental pool operations, including utilization tracking, reservation systems, chargeback processes, and lifecycle planning.
- Experience coordinating external rental vehicle programs, including vendor sourcing, contract compliance, rate negotiation, and service-level monitoring.
- Experience with subrogation processes, including claim initiation, documentation, recovery tracking, and collaboration with Risk Management or legal teams.
- Experience developing and implementing fleet policies and procedures, especially those related to accidents, rentals, and operational continuity.
- Strong proven leadership experience, including staff development, coaching, performance management, and cross-department collaboration.
- Strong proven customer service skills, including communication, reliability, accessibility, and innovative problem-solving.
- Class B CDL with passenger endorsement.
- Additional technical skills or certifications, i.e. ASE, CAFM, CAFS related to fleet operations, accident management, risk management.
- Applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
