About the Role

El Museo del Barrio seeks experienced Teaching Artists to co-develop and facilitate learning experiences connecting audiences to the museum’s exhibitions, collections, and mission. This role involves leading discussions, facilitating artmaking, and contributing to program development and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate gallery-based discussions and hands-on artmaking experiences for various age groups.
• Lead programs across multiple formats, including museum visits, off-site partnerships, and public events.
• Guide participants in exploring artistic ideas through conversation and creative practice.
• Adapt content and teaching approaches for diverse audiences and learning styles.
• Create inclusive and engaging learning environments.
• Co-develop and adapt curriculum, workshops, and program content.
• Integrate exhibition content, artistic practice, and cultural context into learning experiences.
• Contribute ideas for new educational activities and participatory experiences.
• Assist with the creation and fabrication of educational resources and program installations.
• Prepare materials, supplies, and learning spaces.
• Maintain classrooms, studios, and storage areas.
• Support group visit administration, including reservations and scheduling.
• Assist with departmental recordkeeping and program documentation.
• Support the setup, operation, and breakdown of public programs and events.
• Perform other administrative and operational duties.

Requirements

• Experience teaching in museums, classrooms, or community-based settings.
• Experience working with various art mediums and facilitating hands-on artmaking.
• Strong facilitation skills and ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Ability to adapt content and teaching approach in real time.
• Interest in culturally responsive teaching practices.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Comfortable balancing teaching responsibilities with administrative and logistical work.
• Background in Latinx, Latin American, Caribbean, or diasporic cultural contexts.
