About the Role
Simon & Schuster is modernizing its core systems using .NET and SQL solutions with an AI-assisted approach. The QA / Test Automation Engineer will be responsible for proving the equivalence of new systems to existing ones through rigorous data reconciliation and automated testing, ensuring a smooth transition for production cutovers.
Responsibilities
- Own first-pass reconciliation by running and maintaining data-comparison processes for parallel runs, classifying discrepancies before business review.
- Build automated regression and parity tests to verify converted functionality preserves required business behavior.
- Test integrations with warehouse, EDI, and financial systems, and verify performance against legacy systems under production-scale volume.
- Gate production cutovers by defining and enforcing 'green-run' standards and assembling evidence packages for business review.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) with business stakeholders, translating validation results into business-friendly terms.
- Harden the validation framework by improving shared reconciliation procedures, test data management, and run-telemetry checks.
- Critically use AI tooling for test generation, data analysis, and documentation, validating all generated output.
Requirements
- 5+ years of QA experience with a strong test-automation focus, including ownership of test strategy for production systems.
- Strong SQL skills for writing substantial queries against large datasets for data validation and reconciliation.
- Experience building and maintaining automated test suites (e.g., NUnit/xUnit, pytest, or equivalent) and integrating them into a repeatable pipeline.
- Data-centric testing background, proving correctness by comparing datasets.
- Experience using AI tools in testing or analysis with the judgment to critically validate generated output.
- Demonstrated ability to perform root-cause analysis on data discrepancies and communicate findings clearly.
- Clear written communication skills for creating validation reports and evidence summaries for non-technical stakeholders.
