About the Role
This position is a member of the Engineering Department, reporting directly to the Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager. The role involves new product development, upgrades, and modifications to existing designs, requiring leadership and decision-making skills to ensure robust, reliable, and safe designs within specifications.
Responsibilities
- Develop new product designs or upgrade/modify existing designs to meet new requirements without direct supervision.
- Create new concepts and innovative designs.
- Utilize SolidWorks modeling expertise.
- Communicate effectively using the latest technologies.
- Provide leadership and make decisions.
- Ensure designs are robust, meet minimum FoS requirements, and are reliable.
- Complete Risk Assessments for products and ensure safe design and compliance.
- Publish technical papers, white papers, or patents.
- Employ the most current design techniques and tools.
- Ensure designs and Bills of Materials (BOMs) are accurate with a zero-defect standard.
- Complete design projects in a timely manner.
- Ensure designs comply with all safety requirements.
- Design within product specifications, considering cost, manufacturability, reliability, and service requirements.
- Lead in the commissioning and debugging of products.
- Develop documentation and testing to support machine performance.
- Review and approve requests for changes, Non-Conformance Reports (NCPs), and Requests for Deviation (RFDs).
- Train others in proper operation, techniques, and strategies.
- Assure products are 'as designed' and maintain proper revision control.
- Verify products meet specifications.
- Maintain a working knowledge of machine processes and operations.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Mentor new engineers and designers.
- Interact with other departments, including Manufacturing, TSS, Sales, and Purchasing.
- Actively participate in team meetings, design reviews, machine reviews, and kick-off meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, OR 10 years of relevant experience in machine design with proven performance.
- Up to 10% travel required.
