About the Role

AHRC NYC is hiring experienced Complex Needs Direct Support Professionals (CNDSP) for Full and Part-Time positions in their Midwood residence. CNDSPs provide care for the emotional, physical, and personal well-being of individuals with complex behavioral health needs, ensuring a nurturing, structured, and protective environment. They work to mitigate crisis-related factors and sustain a safe and stable life experience within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Promote physical and mental health and wellness by applying health maintenance and prevention strategies, administering medication, and using trauma-informed, person-centered strategies.
  • Utilize crisis prevention, intervention, and resolution techniques.
  • Advocate for individuals in all settings.
  • Adhere to requirements as mandated reporters of abuse, neglect, and maltreatment.
  • Enhance individual stability by providing support and information to build self-esteem and independence.
  • Maintain knowledge of assessment practices for appropriate service response.
  • Assist individuals in developing and maintaining positive personal relationships.
  • Employ effective communication strategies to build collaborative relationships with supported individuals.
  • Administer prescribed medications and accompany individuals to medical appointments.
  • Follow emergency notification procedures to ensure safety.
  • Maintain recordkeeping for incidents and crisis interventions.
  • Assist with household management tasks including shopping, meal preparation, laundry, and cleaning.
  • Provide coverage according to staffing schedules and adapt to changes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Experience working with people with dual diagnosis (IDD and MH) is preferred.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services plus one year of experience providing direct support to adults with autism and behavioral challenges, OR High School Diploma plus 3 years of experience.
  • Experience implementing behavior support plans and understanding positive behavior supports approaches (including positive reinforcement, preventive, and de-escalation strategies).
  • Experience in using assistive communication strategies and visual supports is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of Person Centered Planning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with residents, families, clinical staff, and community agencies.
  • Ability to solve problems and make judicious decisions regarding resident health and well-being.
  • Must maintain training certification in medication administration, first aid, and CPR, as well as other required professional trainings.
  • Must be able to perform lifting tasks, including transferring individuals.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license for more than one year with a clean driving record.
