About the Role

The Registered Nurse Unit Manager, RN performs professional supervision, guidance, and direction to staff in clinical and personnel issues on the Unit. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining nursing practice and standards consistent with the facility's philosophy, representing the Nursing Department, and coordinating services with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional supervision, guidance, and direction to staff in clinical and personnel issues on the Long-Term Unit.
  • Coordinate resident care in accordance with State DOH regulations.
  • Provide support to residents/families in dealing with clinical issues and challenges.
  • Ensure staff adheres to safety and infection control guidelines.
  • Assist in establishing daily operations of resident care on the unit, including showers/baths, toileting, meals, medication administration, and activities.
  • Communicate pertinent information to the Interdisciplinary Team to assure resident/family needs are met.
  • Perform daily rounds of all residents on the unit.
  • Perform resident assessments as required (e.g., Admission, Elopement, Pain).
  • Develop and document resident plans of care, communicating them on Resident Information Sheets.
  • Document clinical observations and assessments per regulations, reporting findings to the Nursing Supervisor and documenting the effectiveness of the plan of care.
  • Prepare resident assignments for Certified Nursing Assistants, considering resident needs and staff competency.
  • Communicate resident, family, and facility plans/concerns/information to staff.
  • Organize, oversee, and supervise assigned unit activities and staff assignments.
  • Provide Nursing Assistant assignments and communicate pertinent resident care needs to CNAs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the flow of activity and delivery of patient care provided by CNAs, ensuring ADL documentation is completed.
  • Communicate pertinent resident findings to Interdisciplinary Team members.
  • Assist other staff members in completing their duties.
  • Orient new nursing personnel as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or three (3) years’ experience in long term care.
  • Current licensure in NYS as a Registered Professional Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, long term care facility, or other related medical facility.
  • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practice.
  • Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and disabled.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of medical, social, and psychological needs of residents.
  • Must utilize good judgment in emergency situations.
  • Must possess a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm.
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally with residents, families, and staff.
  • Must be able to handle emergencies with calm and intelligent response.
  • Must have computer literacy.
