About the Role

New York Institute of Technology's College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks a Medical Assistant to support patient care and administrative functions at the Old Westbury campus.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by administering preliminary physical tests and taking vital signs.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures, toxicology exams, and EKGs.
  • Review and process lab requisitions and results within the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure all test results and reports are received prior to patient arrival.
  • Assign abnormal test results to the ordering/covering provider as per policies.
  • Maintain medical equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, and maintaining supplies.
  • Secure patient information and maintain confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with OSHA regulations.
  • Adhere to the AHC HIPAA Compliance Program.
  • Maintain inventory of stock, place orders, and verify receipt of supplies.
  • Collaborate with physicians to ensure efficient medical record documentation using EMR.
  • Greet and receive patients, obtain appropriate financial information, and collect payments.
  • Schedule appointments, document patient arrival, verify information, and obtain necessary consents and signatures.
  • Obtain insurance referrals and check insurance eligibility as needed.
  • Answer telephone, take messages, and document them in the electronic medical record.
  • Scan correspondence and reports into the patient's medical record and assign them to the appropriate Provider for review.
  • Print medical records upon request with a completed release of record form.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certificate
  • CPR Certification
  • Knowledge of blood test procedures, triage procedures, lab reports, and medical terminology.
  • Skill in venipuncture procedure, vital signs, operation of EKG's, and medical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records.
  • Ability to prepare patients for medical examinations and procedures.
