About the Role
The Industrial Engineer Technologist is responsible for the development, improvement, implementation, and evaluation of processes within the manufacturing area. This role also involves inputting and maintaining Engineering and Production data within the ERP (D365) and Leadtec systems.
Responsibilities
- Establish labor standards through methods analysis and time studies and resolve questions relating to job utilization and performance.
- Present new labor standards to employees and the Union, and present and defend findings when a grievance is filed.
- Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities.
- Restructure job duties, reorganize workflow, relocate workstations/equipment, and manage equipment purchasing and inventory.
- Determine optimal workforce utilization for maximum productivity.
- Provide ongoing recommendations for productivity improvement.
- Establish costs and methods for new styles.
- Develop, monitor, and improve manufacturing processes ensuring highest quality and lowest cost products using best practices like Lean Manufacturing.
- Demonstrate leadership by mentoring production staff and promoting knowledge transfer between teams.
- Implement new layouts as required.
- Maintain KPI executive files with savings for the fiscal year.
- Be fully competent in the Leadtec shop floor control system and train operators and staff in its use.
- Map multi-level BOMs in D365.
- Audit the Engineering project list.
- Perform monthly floor audits and 5S compliance checks.
- Update the Industrial Engineer meetings file.
- Maintain Engineering data within the Leadtec system, including operations and style files.
- Print and distribute reports on a daily and weekly basis.
- Monitor operator daily and weekly efficiencies.
- Follow instructions provided by the Industrial Engineering Manager.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience as an Industrial Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- Apparel manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience in a union environment is an asset.
- Hands-on experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Excellent communication skills with a “Can do” attitude.
- Exceptional leadership skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong capabilities in planning, organizing, and process control.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, operate proactively, work as a team, and handle challenges.
- Excellent common sense, decision-making abilities, interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Ability to evaluate options and generate solutions.
- Confident, articulate, organized, detail-oriented, goal-oriented, self-motivated, and hard-working.
- Must be familiar with computers and business software such as MS Office, Excel, CAD, and ERP software.
