About the Role
The Accountant will administer internal accounting systems and prepaid accounts, prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, process invoices and cheque requests, analyze payments, prepare financial statement components and reports, and maintain filing records. This role supports and maintains accounting records, ensuring accurate and timely entry of all accounting entries.
Responsibilities
- Administer internal accounting systems and prepaid accounts
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliation
- Process all aspects of invoice and cheque request processing and payment analyzing
- Prepare financial statement components and/or accounts
- Prepare financial reports
- Maintain good filing records of endorsed cheques
- Support and maintain accounting records
- Ensure all accounting entries are entered accurately and in a timely manner
- Assist in preparation of key reconciliations
- Compile, analyze, and reconcile financial accounts and records
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or problems
- Assist with the development of appropriate action plans for the resolution of discrepancies and potential problems
- Coordinate with other units/departments to ensure financial data and systems are updated in a timely manner
- Prepare month-end journal entries as assigned
- Review and verify invoices/payment requisitions for proper coding and authorization
- Resolve any invoice discrepancies and issues
- Ensure all information entered in the finance accounting system is accurate and complete
- Prepare and perform cheque runs, EFTs, wires, and bank account transfers
- Prepare journal entries for expense reclassifications and other general ledger entries as required
- Handle high volumes of work while meeting multiple priorities and demands
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in a financial discipline or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of accounting experience within a similar role
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and spreadsheet software (i.e., Excel and Word)
- Knowledge in coding of GST, HST and Provincial Sales Taxes an asset
- Familiarity with online banking (i.e., RBC Express) is preferred but not a requirement
