About the Role
HI USA is seeking a full-time Housekeeping Associate for its New York City hostel. This role focuses on maintaining common areas, supporting the housekeeping team, and assisting with guest room cleaning to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for travelers.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of hallways, stairwells, elevators, lobbies, and other common areas.
- Empty trash and recycling from common areas and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors throughout the property.
- Strip and wax floors as needed.
- Support Housekeeping staff by distributing and restocking linens, towels, toiletries, and other supplies throughout the hostel.
- Collect and transport dirty linens and towels to designated laundry areas.
- Keep housekeeping closets, storage areas, and supply stations clean, organized, and stocked.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and maintaining housekeeping supplies and inventory.
- Respond to requests from Housekeeping staff for additional linens, supplies, or other assistance.
- Assist with moving supplies, furniture, mattresses, and other items as needed.
- Perform laundry duties, including washing, sorting, folding, and restocking.
- Assist with cleaning and preparing guest rooms, dorms, and bathrooms as needed.
- Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, showers, and other guest and common areas.
- Report maintenance issues, damaged items, or safety concerns to management.
- Assist with light maintenance and groundskeeping as needed.
- Perform other housekeeping and operational duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum six months of hostel, hotel, housekeeping, houseperson, janitorial, or similar experience preferred.
- Experience with floor care, including stripping and waxing floors, preferred.
- Comfortable performing a physically active role and moving throughout a large property during the shift.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Customer service experience is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Flexibility to assist with both houseperson and traditional housekeeping duties based on operational needs.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
