About the Role

The Learning Designer and LMS Specialist creates engaging and outcomes-driven learning experiences using innovative instructional design methods for the NYBG Continuing Education team. This role focuses on delivering excellent programming and customer support, managing the learning management system, and supporting the development and implementation of digital learning initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with NYBG staff to identify, analyze, explore, and meet teaching and learning technology needs.
• Act as the lead Digital Learning staff member engaging with IT partners to administer digital systems and software platforms for NYBG Education, focusing on Continuing Education.
• Create engaging and outcomes-driven learning experiences by leveraging innovative instructional design methods to adapt new or existing content for asynchronous courses.
• Oversee and perform Canvas administrative functions, including user and course management, testing, and reporting.
• Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of LMS integrations.
• Work with Education and Digital Learning staff and instructors to create, develop, and maintain templates, courses, and content.
• Build Canvas sites for online and blended courses, managing the technical aspects of course development and implementation.
• Collaborate with AVP for Continuing Education, Continuing Education staff, and other departments to develop and operationalize workflows, create support documentation, and provide training.
• Provide Canvas group and one-on-one training sessions for instructors, students, and staff.
• Provide exemplary customer service to staff, instructors, and students needing assistance with technology-related issues.
• Facilitate problem escalation for teaching and learning tools and work with Digital Learning staff and vendors to resolve issues.
• Stay current with research and developments in online learning.
• Support the evaluation and use of new technologies and their impact on learning outcomes.
• Supervise and collaborate with contractors as needed.
• Establish and meet milestones for all major projects.
• Stay current on best practices in instructional design.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in educational technology, instructional design, or education.
• Master's Degree preferred.
• Experience as instructional or academic staff in an educational or museum environment.
• Experience with educational technology required.
• Experience with Canvas, Zoom, or Kaltura preferred.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills with diverse constituencies.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in project planning, implementation, and assessment.
• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training and support in multiple modalities.
• Experience with video editing tools/video production preferred.
• Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with data management practices.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards and universal design principles.
• Demonstrated commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in Education.
• Familiarity with botany, horticulture, landscape design, botanical illustration, or related fields preferred.
• Available weekends and evenings as needed for special events or to monitor synchronous online courses.
