About the Role

The Monitor Technician I records electrocardiograms (EKGs) for patients of all ages, ensures EKG transmission to the MUSE EKG Computer System, places telemetry packs, and communicates with monitoring staff for signal verification. This role involves delivering cardiac rhythm strips, troubleshooting telemetry equipment, and assisting with the retrieval of misplaced equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Recording electrocardiograms (EKGs) for patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric.
  • Ensuring EKGs are transmitted from cart to MUSE EKG Computer System.
  • Utilizing patient identifiers.
  • Placing telemetry transmitter packs.
  • Communicating with monitor technician for verification of signal.
  • Delivering cardiac rhythm strips from the Cardiac monitoring station to various nursing units.
  • Posting cardiac rhythm strips in specified unit locations during medical record downtime.
  • Performing miscellaneous duties related to cardiac monitoring, including troubleshooting telemetry transmitter packs (i.e., replacing worn electrodes, changing batteries, changing wires, etc.).
  • Assisting in the search and retrieval of misplaced telemetry transmitter packs and cardiac pacemakers.
  • Interpreting and following Physicians’ orders.
  • Triaging workload and completing tasks accordingly.
  • Assisting, as needed, with the onboarding of new staff and conducting department orientation.
  • Promoting Patient and Employee Safety as the number one priority.
  • Promoting a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Understanding the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals as it pertains to the EKG technician role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
  • 1-3 years of patient experience preferred.
  • Honest, punctual, and performs the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees and others.
  • Ability to read documents such as requisitions.
  • Ability to document on established forms and in the EMR.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire required.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
