About the Role
The Nurse Manager is a critical component of patient care in our oncology practices. They are tasked with providing support, guidance and supervision to our clinical staff while ensuring optimal patient care and outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements and professional standards, including QOPI certification standards.
- Perform nursing assessments and provide direct patient care, prioritizing patient safety.
- Execute medical regimens prescribed by physicians or other licensed health care providers.
- Oversee and coordinate nursing care with the nursing team and providers.
- Provide health education to patients and their support network.
- Demonstrate knowledge of therapeutic agents and their adverse effects.
- Compound sterile drugs following pharmacy guidelines and annual competency evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with Institute policies and procedures, and establish department standards as appropriate.
- Maintain medical surgical supplies and drug inventories for cost efficiency.
- Monitor and respond to patient and nurse satisfaction results.
- Assess medical equipment for functionality and arrange maintenance.
- Ensure EMR documentation is completed accurately and timely.
- Provide training and staffing for surgical specialty services to ensure continuity of care.
- Direct supervisory authority for nursing staff in medical and surgical oncology.
- Conduct daily huddles and weekly staff meetings with nursing staff.
- Recommend personnel actions in coordination with Human Resources.
- Review and ensure clinic schedules are appropriate and manageable.
- Ensure safe and efficient infusion clinic schedules by assigning patients based on acuity.
- Monitor nursing certifications, BLS, and chemo/bio certification per QOPI standards.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations and competency evaluations for assigned staff.
- Ensure consistent application of organization policies and resolve employee relations issues.
- Oversee orientation of new personnel regarding job requirements, equipment, and facility policies.
- Function as a preceptor for new nursing and medical assistant staff.
- Act as a subject matter expert and liaison between physicians, healthcare team, patients, and families.
- Delegate additional tasks to nursing and medical assistant staff.
- Prepare and distribute written or electronic documentation as required.
- Adhere to RPCI Oncology PC standard for Employee Conduct and maintain HIPAA compliance.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- License to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in New York State.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Three (3) years of full-time oncology nursing experience required.
- Prior Nurse Management experience required.
- Demonstrated Leadership and professional qualities and character required.
- Experience with EMR software (Onco/MedEnt/Healthilink/IMS).
- Experience working in Windows and with MS Office software.
- OSHA and HIPAA training required.
Skills
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred.
