About the Role

Focus will be on controls equipment design, build, programming, testing, and debugging of automated process machines and material handling systems within Corning’s manufacturing plants and processes, utilizing custom programming standards and Rockwell Automation controllers. This role is a member of the cross-functional Controls Engineering team responsible for support and functionality enhancements required for advanced manufacturing automation and process machine systems. Responsibilities also include the design, implementation, maintenance, and validation of safety systems in compliance with ISO 13849 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an Electrical Controls resource for the development and troubleshooting of production equipment in the Finishing areas of the Diesel Manufacturing facility in Painted Post, NY.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to provide new functionality.
  • Control system programming will include safety systems, programmable control systems, human machine interfaces, robots, motion control, measurement systems, instrumentation, dryers, kilns, material handling systems, networks, computer system hardware/software application support for MES, and data collection systems.
  • Work in accordance with plant and division electrical controls standards.
  • Serve as a technical resource for questions regarding deviations and interpretations, as well as managing changes during off-shift activities.
  • Execute assignments in a team-based environment with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with Operations and Leadership concerning the benefits and risks of engineered solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a bachelor’s degree with prior experience working with control systems.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience.
  • High level of technical curiosity that enables unique solutions to the technical challenges of the position.
  • Ability and interest to learn and apply new technologies in support of overall technical objectives.
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical design practices and machine/motion control systems.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, team-based environment.
  • Understanding of general mechanics and the ability to apply it in troubleshooting and system design.
  • Self-starter who can meet expectations for objectives and timelines with minimal supervision.
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, customer-focused, with a high level of commitment.
  • Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to execute projects and deliver on budget.
