About the Role
Black & McDonald is seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join their Construction team. This role involves leading the analysis of cost estimates and preparing Mechanical work take-offs for mechanical projects, providing technical support to project operations, and focusing on Plumbing estimating and project changes.
Responsibilities
- Prepares Mechanical work take-offs and estimates on projects including costs of materials, labour and equipment required for projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications with a focus on ICI Plumbing
- Advises on tendering procedures; examines and analyzes tenders, recommends tender awards and conducts negotiations
- Establishes and maintains tendering process, sets up cost monitoring, reporting systems and procedures
- Coordinates price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders
- Participates in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, and project closing, as required
- Prepares and maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
- Liaises, consults and communicates with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepares economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
- Conducts material and equipment purchasing for secured key projects.
- Updates and maintains estimating logs and past project archive.
- Utilizes Estimating software and CRM platform (i.e Autobid, Salesforce).
- Travel to various sites or clients to undertake the above.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ estimating experience on Mechanical and/or Plumbing ICI construction projects
- Construction scheduling, planning, and execution experience required
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Strong knowledge of Ontario Building Code, specialization in plumbing code is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of related local union collective agreements
- Knowledge of construction software (such as Procore)
- Knowledge of construction contract law (CCDC and other typical contract types.)
- Valid Ontario G class driver’s license
- Willingness to drive within the local Southwest Ontario area for site reviews, typically 1-2 days per week
- A Criminal Background Check and Professional Reference Check will be required.
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
