About the Role

The In-school Prep Cook is an integral part of a 3-5 person team preparing healthy, made-from-scratch meals for hundreds of children daily. This role offers stable, day hours with weekends and holidays off. The ideal candidate has high-volume kitchen experience, is reliable, and possesses a positive attitude. Key responsibilities include understanding production menus, cooking scratch dishes, serving meals on a strict schedule, and maintaining high sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Read menu production sheets to understand the type and quantity of food to be prepared.
  • Prioritize the production of daily menu items in coordination with the Head Chef.
  • Portion and weigh food according to Red Rabbit’s recipes and guidelines.
  • Cook, cool, and plate food following Red Rabbit’s recipes and food safety guidelines.
  • Pack and distribute meals to students, adhering to compliance portions and school timing.
  • Accurately count and track food produced to ensure compliance and reduce waste.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness, ensuring it exceeds Department of Health standards.
  • Represent Red Rabbit’s values professionally and courteously when interacting with school staff and students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional culinary experience in a fast-paced role (restaurants, commissary kitchen, or similar cafeteria setting).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Familiarity with using and maintaining industrial kitchen equipment.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.

Skills

  • ServeSafe Certificate
  • Ability to self-motivate and stay organized.
  • Ability to function well within a team and work calmly and efficiently in a fast-moving environment.
  • Positive attitude and contribution to a positive working environment.
  • Passion for improving nutrition and health in schools.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.
