About the Role

The Director, Commercial Strategy is accountable for developing and implementing the commercial strategy for the Haematology (Heme) therapeutic area at the country level. This person understands the market landscape and Vertex's position, leads the country Commercial team, and aligns all business activities with portfolio performance goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the country Heme commercial strategy in alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Shape and build the team by hiring and setting the country vision; lead the Heme commercial field team.
  • Understand value drivers, lead the business, and identify profitable commercial opportunities to grow revenue and market share.
  • Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of key physicians, centres, patient associations, and government audiences to ensure their needs are met and business is retained.
  • Maintain awareness of external factors including competitors, government business initiatives, and relevant legislation.
  • Champion and lead product or service development from innovation through to successful implementation.
  • Review and assess the potential to develop strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Represent the company externally at events, conferences, and exhibitions to enhance the company’s profile and optimize business development opportunities.
  • Liaise with relevant internal departments to ensure customer needs are met and communicated throughout the business.
  • Ensure all commercial activities meet or improve on budget, revenue, cost, volume, and efficiency targets (KPIs) in line with business objectives.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills and significant experience in the biotech industry dealing with rare diseases/Heme space.
  • Solid understanding of the compliance framework with a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic and fast-growing organization with demonstrated capability to be at ease in a matrix structure with ability to influence.
  • Strong and successful background in sales and marketing or as a Business Unit lead.
  • Results driven, customer focused and passionate about achieving high levels of excellence.
  • Ability to oversee generation of insights and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities and make strategic recommendations.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) at all levels and ability to influence at a senior level, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to build strong external relationships to enhance and strengthen the company’s profile.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategy, make strategic recommendations, and monitor performance.
  • Strong learning agility & expert negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to provide a high-quality service.
  • Numerate with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent project management skills.
