About the Role
NBME is seeking an AWS Serverless Software Engineer to join the Product Engineering Unit as a key member of the Exam Delivery Team. This role involves developing, deploying, and supporting scalable, secure, and highly available applications using AWS serverless technologies and event-driven architecture. You will collaborate with various teams to deliver cloud-native solutions for mission-critical exam delivery platforms, with opportunities to grow expertise in serverless architecture, cloud engineering, and modern DevOps.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support cloud-native applications that support mission-critical exam delivery platforms.
- Develop and enhance event-driven solutions that are secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective.
- Contribute to technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and solution planning activities.
- Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and distributed application components.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), deployment automation, and operational processes.
- Monitor application health, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Develop data integration and storage solutions.
- Apply security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, Infrastructure, Security, and Engineering teams.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
- Continuously expand AWS cloud, serverless, and software engineering skills.
Requirements
- 4+ years of software development experience, preferably developing cloud-based or distributed applications.
- Experience working with AWS cloud services and modern software development practices.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

- AWS serverless technologies (Lambda, API Gateway, AppSync, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3)
- Event-driven and cloud-native applications development
- Python programming (boto3, AWS SDKs)
- RESTful APIs, integrations, and distributed applications development
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform
- CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- AWS security best practices (IAM, Secrets Manager, encryption, authentication, authorization)
- Observability and monitoring tools (CloudWatch, X-Ray, CloudTrail)
- Troubleshooting and supporting applications in cloud environments
- AWS data services (DynamoDB, Aurora/RDS, DocumentDB, S3, Glue, Athena)
