About the Role

The Head Start Child Development Specialist (CDS) provides expertise in Early Childhood Education and Development for the CCNS Family Child Care (FCC) Head Start program. The role involves supporting FCC providers through home visits, monitoring compliance, facilitating communication, and offering technical assistance to ensure quality early childhood education for children aged 3-5.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular visits to FCC provider homes at least once every two weeks.
• Monitor and provide educational support to providers regarding assessment, screenings, and data management.
• Periodically verify compliance with agency policy.
• Facilitate communication between program staff, family child care providers, and enrolled families.
• Provide recommendations for technical assistance and support providers in developing relationships with other child care professionals.
• Monitor provider homes, consultation, training, policy and procedure development, agency collaboration, and tracking of Childhood Education/Childhood Development services.
• Collaborate with other Head Start and pre-K programs to develop transition plans and monitor services, including observing providers in their homes.
• Support Head Start FCC staff and providers on classroom environments, teaching skills, curriculum, and transitioning children and families.
• Conduct home visits, phone calls, emails, written reports, record keeping, and data tracking.
• Research and disseminate information on Child Development from professional sources to staff, parents, and providers.
• Support the coordination of the annual Program Self-Assessment and follow-up reporting.
• Provide input for developing and maintaining written policies and procedures in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Development, Early Intervention or related degree (with minimum of 6 classes with primary focus on ECE/ECD).
• At least one year of related experience with age groups 3-5 through employment, practicum, student teaching, or volunteering in a pre-school educational environment.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, & climbing stairs.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs.
• Able to travel throughout the five boroughs as needed.
