About the Role

The Buyer / Planner provides day-to-day tactical support for purchasing and production planning activities to ensure material availability and smooth production execution. This role also fills a logistics lead role by overseeing daily activities related to inventory management, shipping, receiving, and returns, ensuring efficient, accurate, and safe handling of materials to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements. The position focuses on purchase order processing, schedule maintenance, data accuracy, and cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Create, release, and maintain purchase orders for direct materials and components.
  • Track supplier order acknowledgements, delivery dates, and open order status.
  • Follow up with suppliers on late, short, or incorrect deliveries and escalate issues.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data in the ERP/MRP system.
  • Assist with resolving invoice discrepancies and receiving issues.
  • Support inventory replenishment activities.
  • Assist with maintaining daily and weekly production schedules in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Monitor work order status and flag material or scheduling conflicts.
  • Verify material availability prior to work order release.
  • Update lead times, routings, and bills of material.
  • Help coordinate priorities between production, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Support engineering change implementation.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Oversee cycle counting and physical inventory processes.
  • Work with production and purchasing to resolve discrepancies and maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Monitor inventory transactions in ERP or MRP systems.
  • Supervise all shipping and receiving activities, ensuring on-time delivery and compliance.
  • Schedule and coordinate outbound shipments with carriers and freight providers.
  • Inspect inbound materials for accuracy and quality.
  • Maintain shipping logs, tracking information, and carrier performance metrics.
  • Run standard reports related to open orders, shortages, inventory levels, and schedule adherence.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to buyers, planners, and production supervisors.
  • Participate in inventory accuracy and cycle count support activities.
  • Assist with continuous improvement efforts related to planning, purchasing, and material flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, supply chain, or materials role.
  • Candidates must be a U.S. person as defined in ITAR, 22 CFR 120.15 (U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien Status).

Skills

  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar preferred).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to follow standard processes and work instructions.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
