About the Role
The Information Technology department at Penguin Random House is seeking a Developer to join their team. This role involves building products and services in a dynamic, agile development environment, working with a small development team.
Responsibilities
- Work on existing and new web projects in the PRH Applications suite to support both internal and external users.
- Build, test, ship, and iterate technology products during their launch and early lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with the team to execute on agreed-upon timetables with partner teams.
- Engage in all aspects of development, including infrastructure, services, and frontend development (full-stack).
- Participate in areas such as flexible infrastructure (e.g., AWS), RESTful APIs, service-based architecture, and DevOps.
- Focus on automating tasks and building tools for the frontend development workflow.
- Communicate effectively and professionally in all forms of communication with internal and external customers.
- Possess strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Multi-task and transition between tasks efficiently.
Requirements
- At least 2 years’ experience working with web-based technologies.
- Strong knowledge in JavaScript.
- Strong knowledge with modern web standards including HTML5, CSS3, and ES6+.
- Working knowledge with React/Redux or other JavaScript Frameworks.
- Basic understanding of WordPress development.
- Knowledge of AWS environment (S3, containers, Lambda functions, Cognito).
- Understanding of Website Accessibility.
- Knowledge of OWASP top 10 security threats.
- Strong understanding of database concepts and ability to write complex and optimized queries in databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., Copilot, LLM-based tools).
- Basic understanding of prompt engineering.
- Basic understanding of LLMs / generative AI concepts.
- Working knowledge of object-oriented design.
- Familiarity with agile software development methodology.
- Familiarity with source code control.
- Excellent communication skills.
