About the Role
This position is responsible for devising and executing externally focused communications strategies to build and maintain relationships with key NGOs, trade associations, think-tanks, and energy/consumer influencers. A priority focus will be organizing and coordinating coalitions to influence state (primarily California and Texas) and federal policies related to low and zero-emissions energy. The role involves stakeholder management, identifying online influencers, and building supporter/activist databases. It also leads digital education and call-to-action campaigns to galvanize support for policy and business priorities.
Responsibilities
- Create and execute strategic communications plans supporting key state and federal public policy objectives, including thought leadership plans for executives.
- Build and maintain grassroots coalitions.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key thought leaders, influencers, NGOs, and allied advocacy groups.
- Influence policymakers on key regulatory and legislative priorities through public advocacy and activations.
- Manage agency contracts and relationships to build digital campaigns and develop messaging documents for public policy priorities and stakeholder activation initiatives.
- Monitor emerging issues from federal and state executive branches and legislatures.
- Provide strategic recommendations to advance support for business and policy priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 8 years of experience in political/policy communications, journalism, public relations, or related experience
- Excellent writing and cogent thinking skills
- Familiarity with digital campaigning and social media campaigning
- Demonstrated talent for strategic problem-solving with a bias for action
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
